In just two months one of the most famous elephants known worldwide sponsored by the 145-year-old circus family called Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey will be giving their last show. They have opened doors, jumped hoops, saluted the fans but now is time to say goodbye.

It was in 1969 when very well known elephant trainer by the name of Gunther Gebel-Williams declared these animals as the best assets for the circus. Due to the fact it all depended on the way, they are trained and treated. Washington Post quoted Janice Aria partner of the Ringlers and this what she said : “It’s the person that can most intuitively connect with these animals that’s going to get the most consistent result from them.” They believe respect for them is the most important aspect.

Although many think the elephants are being abused constantly during their show, an example is the PETA Organization who has fought animal rights for years, others think otherwise as the National Zoo. One of his representative, Tony Barthel, was quoted and this what he had to add: “But elephants are elephants; they are their own creature. Their perspective is not the same as ours. We can’t assume that because something bothers us it must bother them.” So maybe what he thought for years is incorrect, or not?

So at the end are we sure that the elephants will be better off ? Will they miss the circus life? That is something to think about.
