Alicia Keys is a brave soul. She’s been rocking an extremely minimal no-makeup look on and off the red carpet since June. Plus, she recently posed for the cover of Time Out New York where she looks like she isn’t wearing a stitch of makeup. As told by Cosmopolitan.
Let’s just say, Alicia’s flawless, poreless, glowing skin has me questioning my own confidence. Like, why can’t I own the “I woke up like this” look every damn day of my life and still look (and feel) as comfortable in my own skin as she does? Basically, Alicia’s proving to women everywhere that we don’t need to depend on makeup to feel beautiful and I’m here for it.

However, Alicia just doesn’t just wash her face and call it a day. Recently according to a recent interview with her makeup artist, Dottie, Alicia’s not against throwing on a few products here and there to enhance her natural beauty. She also puts in work to keep her complexion on point.

“Alicia gets regular facials, does acupuncture and she eats healthy and exercises,” Dottie said. “She knows you have to invest internally for your skin to look great externally. It’s also about how you process your energy.”
I know you’re dying to know, so here’s what her no-makeup makeup look consists of, per Dottie via the interview: “She might fill her brows with individual lashes or enhance her freckles with an Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer. She’ll give her cheeks a warm glow with Vita Liberata Self Tanning Anti-Age Serum or curb shine with Mally Ever Color Poreless Face Definer Mattifier.”
And when she’s performing or acting as a judge on The Voice, she wears a little bit of makeup too. “Compared to the world of makeup, there is minimal,” Dottie claimed.
To bring “her skin to life” and make it say “Hi. I love you,” Dottie’s been keeping Alicia’s regimen very natural with a lot of ice work, which she does by sticking a jade roller in ice and rolling it over Alicia’s skin to tighten and “bring the blood to the surface.” Alicia also uses masks regularly, cucumbers, MV 9 Oil Cleansing Tonic, and pure jojoba oil to keep her skin in check.
That said, while the no-makeup look is definitely working for Alicia, she doesn’t want people to think she is anti-makeup.
Especially because she’ll most likely be wearing it again someday. “There will come a time when we’ll paint it again,” Dottie said. “I was just speaking with her earlier and she said, ’There’s going to be a time when I say, ’You know what? I want a red lip.’ This isn’t really a big statement. She’s just loving where she is.”
