Most likely in the past days, we all have read headlines that say that NASA has changed the zodiac signs resulting in a changing everything that we used to believe. There are really thirteen and NOT twelve signs as we thought;therefore, the dates that correspond are different from what we always thought. This has some truth and some of the “fake shadow”. As the agency itself has commented on it’s official Twitter account, they not have changed anything … they just started counting correctly.

NASA has also used it’s blog to offer the public a simple explanation for the curious affair. The first thing that NASA clarifies is that they studied astronomy and astrology not: the first refers to the scientific study of outer space, while the latter “is something else and not science. No one has proven that astrology can predict the future or tell how people what will happen based on their date of birth” is indicated on the definition.
So what exactly are the signs of the zodiac? If we imagine a line joining Earth and the Sun and then spread beyond the solar system, this line would be moving according to the motion of our planet line. The zodiac constellations are those that go pointing this imaginary line along a year, as the Earth completes its journey around the sun.
A constellation is, on the other hand, a group of stars that allegedly form a pattern in the sky.
More than 3,000 years ago, the civilization of Babylon divided the zodiac into twelve equal parts, with a constellation for each of them. They created a twelve-month calendar based on lunar phases so that a part of the zodiac assigned to each of them. They were aware that the division was not in twelve Zodiac exact parts but adapted it to their needs and preferences for a functional calendar. Similarly, they knew there was a thirteenth constellation, Ophiuchus, which excluded deliberately.
The fact is that more than three millennials later, the axis of the earth doesn’t even points in the same direction back then. For Babylon, if your birthday was between 23 July and 22 August your zodiac sign was Leo, but this is no longer true. What’s more, at this moment, the imaginary line between Earth and the Sun points to Virgo for 45 days and only 7 to Scorpio.
Keeping all this in mind, these are the actual dates of the zodiac signs if we apply the scientific criteria published by NASA:
Capricorn: January 9 – February 15.
Aquarius: Feb. 16 – March 11.
Pisces: March 12 – April 18.
Aries: April 19 – May 13.
Taurus: May 14 – June 19.
Gemini: June 20 – July 20.
Cancer: July 21 – August 9.
Leo: August 10 – September 15.
Virgo: September 16 – October 30.
Libra: 31 October – 22 November.
Scorpio: November 23 – November 29.
Ophiuchus: November 30 – December 17.
Sagittarius: Dec. 18 – Jan. 8.
