A young college student from William Paterson University killed herself because the school didn’t take the time to investigate her alleged rape at a fraternity house last September- her mother claims in a lawsuit.
The suit says 21-year-old Cherelle Jovana Locklear went to the school’s victim services coordinator a month after the rape, but the coordinator failed to immediately notify campus police. Depressed and without any hope, she hanged herself with a necktie in her dorm room in November 2015.

University spokeswoman, Mary Beth Zeman, claimed in a statement she could not give any comment on the lawsuit but would “continue to focus on the safety and well-being of all of its members and offers a variety of counseling resources for students who seek help with personal challenges.”
The New Jersey university is fighting another lawsuit stemming from the arrests of five students in another alleged rape in 2014. The men were never indicted and had sued William Paterson for false arrest, among other claims.
Once again indifference from organizations cause tragic consequences.
