In spring of 2015, Tiziana Cantone from Naples, Italy, sent a video to her ex-boyfriend of her performing a sex act on another guy. This video was shared on WhatsApp and other social media sites. As soon it uploaded, Cantone became the new face of Social Media bullying. People shared her stills and quotes from the video. (Really?)
A quote from the video as said by BuzzFeed was: “Mi stai facendo il video? Bravo,” (which translates to “You’re making the video? Good”). This phrase was used all over comedic purposes not only by members of the public but also by Italian companies.
Cantone became the subject of gossip blogs; many tried to track her and the man who was in the video. Life became a living hell.
After almost a year passed off the incident, and the horrible gossip that came with, Cantone was found dead by her aunt this Tuesday. She had moved with her family in Mugnano, near Naples. Police in Naples are currently investigating her death. But they have already some reports that state it was a suicide.

Cantone had filed legal requests with Google, Facebook Ireland, Yahoo Italy, and YouTube to have videos and references to her removed, and since her death, many women on social media have spoken out about the way Cantone was treated by the Italian media.
Leggo adesso del suicidio di Tiziana Cantone: mi fa parecchia impressione tutta la dinamica.
Se fosse stato un uomo sarebbe stato un figo

“I now read of the suicide of Tiziana Cantone: makes me feel a lot, the whole dynamic. If she was a man it would have been cool.”
Se si fosse chiamato Tiziano
Questa è la verità.
Perché l’uomo che scopa non provoca scalpore.

“Tiziana Canton. If you were called Tiziano, you would be alive. This is the truth. Because a man who fucks does not cause a stir. Shame.”
La storia di #TizianaCantone è l’esempio di quanto in fondo siamo schiavi del giudizio altrui e mai realmente liberi
— Elisa D’Ospina (@ElisaDospina) September 13, 2016
“The #TizianaCantone story is an example of how we’re slaves to the judgment of others and never really free.”
It is very unfair how people can judge. This girl lived in hell for one year because she had sex.
