The movie that sparked fear in the hearts of everyone home alone on a dark and quiet night is celebrating its 20th anniversary today. The original scream queen Drew Barrymore was quick to praise “Scream” saying: “It was so well-written that it was ours to mess up”.

Barrymore played Casey Becker, and shocked audiences when she was the first to die despite being among the most famous on the ticket. The high-stakes move paid off, and it went on to be the highest grossing slasher film ever.

The screams were real! Drew admitted to sharing her secrets with the director Wes Craven so he could make her cry and despair throughout the shoot. To get those gruesome shots, Barrymore had to run sobbing over and over again, with Wes egging on her deepest fears. She admitted the movie still gives her the creeps.
