The Press Office of the White House communicated an official statement signaling the lifting of restrictions on the importation of items manufactured in Cuba. As told by Infobae.

Barack Obama policy goals, the statement states, “contribute to efforts to normalize relations” with the next door country after 50 years of political craziness and economic limitations.

The Obama administration announced that new measures will promote the joint of medical research and will help to improve the agriculture and infrastructure of the island- among other benefits.

This Presidential Directive, announces a “comprehensive approach” of his government to promote rapprochement with the island. Meanwhile, the Treasury Department reduced the historical trade sanctions to the island.

Obama expressed his intention on keeping the opening toward Cuba for the long term, and called it “irreversible”. This action serves to confirm the changes used by the Government within the bilateral normalization. The new diplomatic policy goal it’s to promote a “greater commitment” between the two countries.

“There are still challenges-and very real differences between our governments on issues such as democracy and human rights-but I think that compromise is the best way to address these differences and advance our interests and values,” Obama said in announcing the policy .

The new amendments related with the embargo applied to the island were announced by the Departments of Commerce and Treasury and will come into force next Monday, October 17, once published in the US Federal Registration.
